Drug & Alcohol Policy

The safety and wellbeing of all attendees is MSLA's top priority. This policy applies to all MSLA events. By attending an MSLA event, you agree to comply with this policy. Non-compliance may result in removal from the event.

1. BYO Alcohol Policy

Where BYO alcohol is permitted at an event, the following rules apply:

  • A maximum of 5 standard drinks per person may be brought to the event
  • Alcohol must be in sealed cans, plastic containers, or cardboard packaging. Glass bottles are strictly prohibited
  • The following are prohibited: hard liquor/spirits, glass bottles, kegs, slabs, bulk containers, and alcohol intended for distribution to others
  • Bag checks may be conducted at entry. Excess alcohol may be confiscated
  • Individuals who appear intoxicated upon arrival will be refused entry. The decision of MSLA staff is final

2. Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

All MSLA events operate in accordance with Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) principles. MSLA staff and volunteers are authorised to monitor alcohol consumption and may ask individuals to stop consuming alcohol if they show signs of intoxication.

3. Refusal During the Event

MSLA reserves the right to restrict or prohibit alcohol consumption by any individual during an event if that person:

  • Appears intoxicated or is behaving in a disorderly manner
  • Has exceeded or is approaching the BYO limit
  • Is supplying alcohol to minors or others who appear intoxicated
  • Fails to comply with the directions of MSLA staff or venue management

4. Underage Drinking

Alcohol is only available to individuals who are 18 years of age or older. The following forms of identification are accepted:

  • Australian Driver Licence or Learner Permit
  • Australian Passport
  • Victorian Proof of Age Card

Any person who supplies alcohol to a minor will be immediately removed from the event. Authorities may be notified.

5. Zero Drugs Policy

MSLA operates a zero-tolerance policy for illicit and prohibited substances at all events. The following substances are strictly prohibited (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Cannabis and cannabis derivatives
  • MDMA / ecstasy
  • Cocaine
  • Ketamine
  • LSD and other psychedelics
  • Psilocybin (magic mushrooms)
  • Synthetic drugs and legal highs
  • Inhalants
  • THC vapes and cannabis edibles
  • Prescription medications not prescribed to the individual in possession

Any individual found in possession of or under the influence of prohibited substances will be immediately removed from the event, banned from future MSLA events, and may be reported to the relevant authorities.

6. General Conduct

All attendees are expected to behave respectfully and responsibly. The following conduct is prohibited at MSLA events:

  • Aggressive, threatening, or violent behaviour toward any person
  • Harassment or intimidation of any kind
  • Damage to property
  • Disruption of the event
  • Non-compliance with reasonable directions from MSLA staff or venue management

7. Removal from Event

MSLA reserves the right to remove any individual from an event who breaches this policy, endangers the safety of others, damages property, disrupts the event, or violates any applicable law. Removal may occur without warning and, where a breach has occurred, without a refund.

8. Safe Transport

MSLA strongly encourages all attendees to arrange safe transport to and from events. Options include:

  • Designated driver
  • Rideshare (Uber, Ola, etc.)
  • Taxi
  • Public transport

MSLA may provide transport guidance where possible but is not responsible for arranging or funding transport for attendees.

9. Attendee Responsibility

By attending an MSLA event, you accept personal responsibility for your conduct and the consequences of any breach of this policy. Non-compliance may result in refusal of entry, removal from the event, or exclusion from future MSLA events.

10. Limitation of Liability

MSLA is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from an attendee's consumption of alcohol, possession or use of prohibited substances, or breach of this policy. All attendees participate in MSLA events at their own risk.

11. Policy Enforcement

This policy is enforced by authorised MSLA representatives at all events. All decisions made by authorised representatives regarding policy enforcement are final.

12. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated from time to time. The most current version will always be available at msla.net.au. Your attendance at any MSLA event constitutes acceptance of the current version of this policy.
